Known as the "scaly-breasted munia," the spice finch is a species of bird native to the open grasses, gardens and fields of Asia. Instantly recognizable by their chocolate head and wings, the finch bears a white belly surrounded by distinct brown and white scale-like markings.

A pleasant and peaceful demeanor makes the finch popular among bird lovers. The spice finch is a passive species that may be kept with other nonaggressive finches. The bird's diet consists of a quality finch seed mix combined with egg food, greens, mealworms, fruits and vegetables. A large flight cage or aviary accommodates their high energy levels.
