Spondylosis with myelopathy is degeneration of the discs and facet joints of the spine resulting in dysfunction and impairment of the spinal cord, according to Spine-health.com. When it affects the cervical region of the spine, it is known as cervical spondylotic myelopathy.
The causes of spondylosis include genetics, age, previous injury and long-term repetitive motion related to occupation, reports Mayo Clinic. Degenerative changes and related arthritis cause a narrowing of the spinal canal and place pressure on the spinal cord, notes WebMD. Symptoms of cervical spondylosis with myelopathy include weakness, tingling or numbness in the hands, arms, legs or feet, muscle spasms, and abnormal reflexes.
