Which members of a baseball team get a World Series ring?

World Series rings are typically provided to each player on the active roster, in addition to injured team members who may be inactive. Players no longer with the team that appeared in one or more games over the season are sometimes granted rings as well.
Rings are paid for by MLB team owners, with the recipients of the rings ultimately at their discretion. According to ring manufacturer Jostens, the Boston Red Sox issued a record 500 rings following their 2004 World Series victory, extending their generosity beyond players and coaches to a number of scouts and employees throughout the organization.
