Stage 3 melanoma is an advanced form of skin cancer, defines Healthline. Cancer is present in both the skin cells and lymph nodes in this stage.
Stage 3 melanoma is split into three classes, which are determined by the size of the tumors, the location of the cancer and if the tumors have spread to the mucus membranes, states Healthline. Surgery to remove tumors, cancerous lymph nodes and some normal tissue is the typical treatment for stage 3 melanoma. Chemotherapy may also be used after surgery. Immunotherapy can also be used to treat stage 3 melanoma if tumor removal is not possible.
