According to the American Cancer Society, there are three stages of multiple myeloma. Stage one is characterized by a relatively small presence of myeloma cells, stage two is characterized by a moderate number of myeloma cells, and stage three is characterized with a large volume of cancerous cells.
Per the American Cancer Society, stage one of myeloma cancer has four features: a hemoglobin level slightly below normal, normal bone x-rays, normal calcium levels and small amounts of monoclonal immunoglobulin in bodily fluids. When the cancer progresses to stage three, these levels of each of the four features are abnormally high or low.
