The threshold on stamp duty land tax varies depending on the property and value of the transaction. For residential transactions up to 125,000 GBP, the stamp duty tax is zero, as of 2014. Residential transactions between 125,001 and 250,000 GBP have a stamp duty tax of 1 percent.
The stamp duty rate is 3 percent on real estate transactions between 250,001 and 500,000 GBP. Transactions valued between 500,000 and 1 million GBP carry a stamp duty rate of 4 percent. A stamp duty rate of 5 percent applies to transactions over 1 million but less than 2 million GBP. All transactions over 2 million GBP carry a stamp duty rate of 7 percent.
