What is standard electrode potential?

By Forinfos - 08/09/2025 - 0 comments

Standard electrode potential is the measure of the electrical potential of an electrochemical cell at its standard state. Standard electrode potential is calculated by measuring the energy per unit charge of the oxidation and reduction reactions that drive the electrochemical cell reaction.

The standard electrode potential of an electrochemical cell depends on the half reactions that occur at the cathode and the anode. Each half reaction has a standard electrode potential that is measured in volts. Once standard electrode potentials are known for each half reaction in an electrochemical cell, the standard cell potential of the electrochemical cell can be calculated.
