What is the standard height of an ADA toilet?

According to the standards set by the Adults with Disabilities Act, or ADA, a toilet seat must be a minimum of 17 inches or a maximum of 19 inches above the floor. In ADA-compliant bathrooms intended for children, toilet seats must be 11 to 17 inches above the floor.

In all ADA-compliant bathrooms, toilet seats must not have springs that cause them to return to an upright position, and toilets must be equipped with flush controls on their sides or on the walls behind them. The Adults with Disabilities Act, originally passed in 1990, established the standards for bathrooms and all other types of facilities and structures that are accessible by people with disabilities.
