As of 2013, Illinois grows the most pumpkins in the United States with an average of 427 million pounds yearly. Roughly 90 percent of these pumpkins grow within a radius of 90 miles of Peoria, Ill. Other pumpkin-growing states include California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Michigan.
The Libby's pumpkin processing plant, owned and operated by the Nestle Food Company, is located in Morton, Ill. This self-proclaimed Pumpkin Capital of the World is located about 10 miles from Peoria. The plant processes and cans over 85 percent of the world's pumpkins each year. Other regions in the world that grow pumpkins include China, Egypt, Mexico, the Ukraine and India.
