As of 2015, Idaho grows more potatoes than any other state in the United States. Washington comes in second, followed by Wisconsin and North Dakota. As of 2013, the U.S. produced 43.7 billion lbs. of potatoes.
Potatoes are grown in more than 30 states, and the U.S. is the fifth-largest potato producer in the world, behind China, Russia, India and Ukraine. More than 1 million acres of potatoes were planted in the U.S. in 2013, and the majority of potatoes were used to make frozen fries. The largest export market for U.S. potatoes is Japan, followed by Canada and Mexico.
