What is a stereoscope used for?

A stereoscope is a tool used for viewing images three-dimensionally. It has two removable eyepieces so that both eyes can be used to view an object at the same time. A stereoscope is used in various fields, such as police work, education, archeology, biology, government services, health and medical research.

A stereoscope allows objects to be seen without any distortion and also reduces straining of the eyes, which is common with a compound microscope. Each eye views an object from a different direction.
