Apple stock has a beta of 1.44 as of July 2015, meaning it tends to move 1.44 times as much as the market as a whole, reports Nasdaq. This means that Apple stock is typically less stable than the market as a whole.
While Apple stock is not particularly stable in value, holders of the stock have done quite well over time. The stock opened trading in January 2009 at $85.88 a share, according to Yahoo Finance. By June 2014, the stock was worth over $600 per share, prompting the shares to undergo a 7:1 stock split. The company also began paying a quarterly dividend in August 2012.
