Does stock trading have certain hours?

Stock trading that is done on the NASDAQ stock market is divided into three periods, which are the pre-market, market and after market trading hours. The pre-market trading hours are from 4:00 a.n. to 9:30 a.m Eastern Time, while the market hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The after market trading hours last from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. No orders or quotes can be made or given before 4:00 a.m. and after 8:00 p.m. All of the trading times follows the Eastern Time standard. Generally, there are less traders operating during the after market and pre-market trading hours, which limits the amount of liquidity available on the market.
