Where is Stockholm?

Stockholm is located in the country of Sweden. Sweden, which is part of Scandinavia, is situated in northern Europe between the borders of Finland and Norway.

Stockholm was founded more than 700 years ago and has been the capital of Sweden since 1634. Its location was selected because of its proximity to both the sea and a freshwater lake. The city occupies 14 islands and is home to just under 1 million people. In its early years, Stockholm proved to be a stronghold that made it nearly impossible for invading adversaries to infiltrate. The city is known for its boutiques, bar scenes and well-preserved Old Town area.
