The Staffordshire Terrier originated in the Staffordshire region of England as the result of breeding between bulldogs and various Terriers. The breed was developed in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The Staffordshire Terrier is a muscular breed that weighs between 57 and 67 pounds. The breed is very intelligent. Although it was originally developed to be ferocious, today's Staffordshire Terriers are gentle and loving companions. They are loyal and protective of their owners, and they are good with children as well as adults. Staffordshire Terriers have long been used as guard dogs, and they are also used in police work. They excel in agility and weight-pulling trials.
