How strong is plastic wrap?

Although the strength of plastic wrap differs depending on the brand, the average weight-holding capacity is around 10 pounds. Up and Up can hold 5 pounds, Rite Aid Home Essentials 10 pounds and Glad Cling Wrap 15 pounds.
Plastic wrap is a commonly used kitchen material composed of PVC (polyvinyl chloride). PVC's chemical qualities make it very resistant to air flow and molecule sharing, making it an excellent choice for food storage and preservation. In July of 2004, a new kind of plastic wrap hit the shelves. Made of a slightly more environmentally-friendly composition, the new plastic wrap is commonly referred to as Saran Premium and it biodegrades significantly easier.
