The percentage of approved disability claim appeals is about 76 percent for those who file an appeal without an attorney, according to the National Organization of Veterans' Advocates. The percentage of appeals granted to veterans who choose to obtain legal representation for the appeals process reaches around 83 percent.
The appeals process on a denied claim to the Department of Veteran Affairs takes between six months and two years. Veterans must first have their appeals heard at the VA regional office level. If the veteran is denied benefits again, the appeals move to the Court of Appeals for Veteran Affairs in Washington, D.C., explains the National Organization of Veterans' Advocates.
