The five-year survival rate for neuroendocrine cancer, a rare form of pancreatic cancer, is about 55 percent for localized and resected tumors and about 15 percent for tumors that doctors cannot remove, reports the National Cancer Institute. The five-year overall survival rate is about 42 percent as of June 2015.
Known as islet cell tumors, pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer accounts for about 3 to 5 percent of malignancies in the pancreas and produces about 1,000 new cases in the United States annually. Neuroendocrine cancer patients generally have a better prognosis than those with pancreatic exocrine tumors, the more common cancer, notes the National Cancer Institute.
