The survival rate for peritoneal cancer is determined by how early the cancer is detected and if treatments are successful. As of 2015, one study puts the average survival rate for stage 3 and stage 4 to be five years for 10 percent of patients, notes the National Cancer Institute.
Peritoneal cancer presents in the lining of the abdomen, or the peritoneum, and its symptoms and treatment are similar to ovarian cancer, explains WebMD. Like ovarian cancer, peritoneal cancer can be difficult to diagnose because its initial symptoms are vague: bloating or cramps, nausea, diarrhea, and frequent urination. Treatment often includes surgery followed by chemotherapy.
