Survival rates for secondary liver cancer vary greatly depending on the initial location of the cancer, notes the University of California San Francisco Department of Surgery. The five-year survival rate typically ranges from 11 to 20 percent, according to the American Cancer Society.

Cancers that most commonly spread to the liver include colorectal cancer, melanoma and breast cancer, as stated by the National Library of Medicine. When colorectal cancer has metastasized to the liver, the five-year survival rate ranges from 11 to 12 percent, whereas the five-year survival rate for stage IV melanoma can be as high as 15 to 20 percent, according to the American Cancer Society.
