Some symptoms of ingesting a large amount of inorganic arsenic include pain in the abdomen, muscle cramps and shock, according to MedicineNet and the World Health Organization. Death eventually follows.

Other effects of acute arsenic poisoning are diarrhea and tingling and numbness in fingers and toes, explains the World Health Organization. People exposed to arsenic over a period of time may also develop skin cancer, pigmentation of the skin, and hardening of areas on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. Chronic exposure to arsenic also leads to cancers of the lungs and the bladder, diabetes, nerve diseases, and cardiovascular problems.
