Symptoms of a toxic liver can include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), itching, pain in the upper right abdomen, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, weight loss and dark urine, says Mayo Clinic. Not all cases of toxic liver produce symptoms.
Toxic liver, also known as toxic hepatitis, can develop within hours or days of the liver being exposed to a toxic substance, according to Mayo Clinic. Symptoms may appear within this short time; however, in some cases, it can take months before the symptoms of a toxic liver appear. Symptoms often go away once the liver is no longer exposed to the toxic substance.
