T-Mobile provides a service plan that is suitable for seniors who are on a budget or only use their phones occasionally. For approximately $3 a month, customers receive 30 talk minutes, 30 text messages or a combination of both. Additional minutes and messages cost 10 cents each.

Prepaid mobile plans are more convenient than other mobile plans in that they don't require an annual contract. Prepaid phones also do not require a down payment. Other carriers that offer inexpensive phone plans include AT&T, TracFone, Cricket, Verizon and Virgin Mobile. Safelink and Assurance Wireless offer free phones with free plans to seniors who meet certain low-income criteria.
