What are T8 bulbs?

By Forinfos - 16/06/2025 - 0 comments

T8 bulbs are fluorescent bulbs, first introduced in the United States in 1981 as an energy-efficient replacement for standard 40-watt bulbs. T8 bulbs are available in different wattages, straight or U-shaped configurations and different socket configurations, including single pin, bi-pin or recessed double contacts.

The label "T8" refers to the bulbs' shape and size. The letter "T" stands for tubular while the number indicates the bulb's diameter, in 1/8-inch increments; a T8 bulb has a 1-inch diameter. Most T8 bulbs have an average life of 20,000 to 30,000 hours, a light output of 2,650 to 3,200 lumens, depending on wattage and mode. As of August 2014, they typically range in price from $2 to $15.
