The U.S. Department of Labor provides tables that compare the minimum wage in each state. If a state has a lower minimum wage than the federal minimum wage, the federal minimum wage supersedes the state minimum wage, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
As of February 2015, the only states with a minimum wage lower than the federal minimum wage are Georgia and Wyoming, explains the U.S. Department of Labor. Five states do not have a minimum wage requirement, 14 states match the federal minimum wage, and 24 states plus the District of Columbia have a higher minimum wage than the federal minimum wage. The highest minimum wage is in the District of Columbia.
