Where is Taiwan?

Taiwan is located approximately 112 miles off the southeastern coast of mainland China. Though it's an island, Taiwan is considered part of the Asian continent.

Taiwan is surrounded by the East China Sea to the north, the Taiwan Strait to the west, the Luzon Strait to the south, and the Philippine Sea to the east. Taiwan's climate is tropical and, like most southern Asian regions, experiences monsoons during the rainy season. The western terrain consists mostly of flat plains, while the eastern terrain is made up of rugged mountains. Due to ongoing political conflict in the region, Taiwan is not considered an independent country. Instead, it is a republic that functions closely with China.
