There is no officially stated guideline for an airline pilot, but a person must be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall to be an airline pilot in the U.S. Air Force. A person must also not be taller than 6 feet 5 inches tall.
Generally, commercial airlines prefer pilots to be taller than 5 feet 4 inches as well. The German airline Lufthansa does not hire pilots under this recommended height. Pilots also cannot be overweight, and must have exceptional vision. A vision of 20/50 in either eye or problems with depth perception can prevent a pilot from flying. Asthma and hay fever may also disqualify pilots from the Air Force or from other flying.
