Himalayan cats are the result of gradual crossbreeding between Siamese and Persian cats. Teacup kittens are baby cats that were carefully bred to remain smaller than average domestic cats. Himalayan is recognized as a distinct breed by the International Cat Association.

The American Cat Association and the Cat Fanciers Association categorize teacup Himalayan kittens as a color variety of the domestic Persian cat breed. Color varieties of teacup Himalayan kittens include tortoiseshell, cream, chocolate, lynx points and lilac. Himalayan kittens have flat snub noses, large round eyes and small ears, according to VetStreet.com.

When fully grown, teacup Himalayan cats typically weigh from 4 ½ to 9 pounds. Standard-size Himalayan cats weigh up to 13 pounds.
