What is AirPrint?

AirPrint is a technology from Apple that enables printing from iOS and OS X applications via a wireless connection. The only requirement is that the printer and iOS device or Mac be on the same Wi-Fi network; there are no specific print drivers needed.

In 2010, when the iPad was introduced, there were just 12 printers that were AirPrint-enabled. As of 2014, there are more than 1,100 compatible printer models, and Apple keeps a current list on its support website. There are also third-party solutions, many of which can be found in the AppStore, that permit printing to legacy printers.
