On Linksys routers, select one of the options in the Standard Channel drop-down menu under Basic Wireless Settings to change wireless channels. The method for changing Wi-Fi channels on other routers will differ, though it should still be somewhat similar.
- Find the default gateway
Holding the Windows key on your computer, press the "R" key. This opens a Run window. In the Run window, type "cmd" and click the Okay button. A black command prompt window should appear. In the command prompt window, type "ipconfig," then press the "Enter" key. Look for a set of numbers labeled Default Gateway that begin with 192.168, 10.1, or 10.0.
- Access the router's settings Web page
Open a Web browser. On the address bar, type "http://" followed immediately by the set of numbers labeled Default Gateway from the previous step. Press the "Enter" key, and you should be prompted to enter a username and password.
- Log in as an administrator
Enter the administrator username and password of your Linksys router. The administrator username and password can be found in the manual for your router. Otherwise, seek technical assistance to obtain them.
- Go to the Basic Wireless Settings page
Once logged in, click the Wireless tab. This takes you to the Basic Wireless Settings page.
- Change the router channel
Look for the setting labeled Standard Channel. Select the channel of your choice in the drop-down list beside it. Click Save Settings to commit the channel change.
