Ted Cruz was born Rafael Edward Cruz in Calgary, Canada, in 1970. His mother was born in Delaware, and his father was born in Cuba. The family moved to Texas when Cruz was 4 years old.

Cruz is attempting to run for president of the United States in the 2016 election, and there are questions about whether he can legally be president. The president of the United States must be a "natural born citizen," according to the U.S. Constitution. While Cruz was born outside of the United States, most legal experts believe that since he was a U.S. citizen at birth, he can run for president.
