What are teeth made of?

Teeth are made out of enamel, dentin, dental pulp and cementum. Enamel, which is the hardest material in the body, covers the crown of the tooth.
Dentin is found just beneath the enamel and extends down to the root of the tooth. The pulp is found in the center of the tooth and is full of living tissue, nerves and blood vessels. It extends down channels, or canals, into the root of the tooth. Cementum covers the root of the tooth. It's made out of a material like bone. A periodontal membrane covers the cementum and the socket where the tooth is found. It holds the tooth in place.
