The Texas death index is a collection of death records in the state of Texas. Death indexes for that state are available from 1903 into the present.
Deaths in Texas that occurred before 1903 were recorded in the county clerk's office of the county in which the person died. From 1903 to 1955, these records were grouped together into three indexes spanning several years each. Since 1956, they have been indexed by each individual year. In the case of an infant death, the first name on record is sometimes recorded as “infant of†or "inf of." Older death records of women sometimes list their husbands' names instead of their own.
