What kills demodex mites?

Tea tree oil at 100 percent strength is effective in killing demodex mites after 15 minutes, according to the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Alcohol, dill weed oil and caraway oil at 100 percent strength also work after 15 minutes.

Demodex mites are microscopic parasites that commonly live on the surface of the facial skin. They have been implicated in the development of rosacea, a skin condition that causes facial redness, pimples, bumps, irritation, burning sensations and thickened skin. Eliminating the demodex mites often produces a significant resolution in the symptoms of mild rosacea. In severe cases, antibiotics may be necessary for complete resolution.
