Waterfowl have short webbed feet, broad flat bills and are medium to large in size. The waterfowl's webbed feet allow them to swim efficiently in their aquatic habitats.
Most waterfowl live in fresh water lakes, streams and ponds, however, there are some species that live in marine locations when they are not breeding. Waterfowl inhabit every continent except Antarctica. They are herbivorous, meaning they feed on leaves, stems, flowers and other plant material, however, some species eat fish and insects. Waterfowl are often prey for coyotes, foxes, skunks, and even other birds such as owls, American crows and black-billed magpies.
