Do tigers live in the jungle?

Both the Bengal and Sumatran tiger subspecies live in jungles. Tigers live in a broad range of habitats that also include mangrove swamps, grasslands, savannas, evergreen forests and even high-altitude rocky mountains.

Tigers are the largest of the four "big cat" species. There were nine known tiger subspecies at the beginning of the 1900s, only six of which survived the century. Over that 100 year period, tigers lost around 93 percent of their native habitat to deforestation, loss of prey, human encroachment, hunting and poaching. Less than 4,000 tigers are left in the wild. The South China tiger is the rarest of the subspecies.
