The 20th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States sets out the date in the year that the president terms run from, states the date that Congress should meet every year and explains what happens if there is no president in office. The amendment is divided into six sections.

Congress proposed this amendment to the Constitution on March 2, 1932, and it was ratified on January 13 of the following year. Because there were only 48 states during that time, only 36 states, or three-fourths of the total amount of states, needed to officially approve of the amendment.
