It is time to transplant strawberry plants at the end of the summer or in the beginning of the fall. It is best to move the plants when an established strawberry bed becomes overcrowded with young plants.
Ideally, strawberry plants should be less than one year old at the time of transplanting. Planting them late in the season ensures they have plenty of time to become established before producing fruit. If transplanting strawberries purchased from the store, it is fine to plant them at any time of the year. If the weather is hot, gardeners should water the plants regularly but make sure the soil is well-drained.
