What time of year is best to plant hellebores?

Seed hellebores between July and August, and transplant plants to a cold frame or cool greenhouse once they have germinated. Sow seeds thinly, and cover with a thin layer of chick grit. Avoid areas that receive full sunlight or that may expose plants to damage from mice or slugs.
Groom the plants by removing any yellowing or dead leaves before transplanting them to a permanent location. Hellebores prefer moist soil that offers good drainage and has plenty of organic matter for fertilizer. Treat acidic soils with lime to achieve a more neutral pH level, and provide plants with extra water during extended dry periods.
