What are some tips for growing plumeria in California?

One tip for growing plumeria in California is to place indoor plants in a south or southwest window. Plants can withstand direct sunlight during summer but use filmy curtains to reduce sunlight exposure until new leaves are nearly full size. Move plants indoors when temperatures drop below 50 F.
Plumerias require good drainage, although plants can grow in poor quality soils. Plumerias do best in areas that provide abundant sunlight, and plants may not bloom if placed in areas that have too much shade. Aphids, mites and whitefly are all common pests that may cause harm to plants. Check the label before using any products to control insects, as certain chemicals may damage plumerias.
