As of 2015, the largest U.S. department stores in terms of retail market share are Macy's, Sears, Kohl's, Nordstrom and J.C. Penney. Macy's is the largest department store, with total shares amounting to 6.4 percent of the retail market.
A list of the 100 largest retailers of 2014 in all categories contained nine department stores. Macy's appeared at number 14 on the list. It was also one of only five department stores to report an increase in sales for 2014. Macy's sales went up by 2 percent that year, despite closing a number of stores and laying off employees at locations around the country.
