What is the treatment for excess skin after a large weight loss?

Treatments for excess skin after a large weight loss include exercise and plastic surgery, according to About.com. Exercise tightens and firms both the skin and the muscle beneath it.
Plastic surgery is an option if exercise still doesn't rid the person of flabby skin, says About.com. Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, removes excess skin and tissue from the abdomen. The procedure also tightens muscles. In a procedure called panniculectomy, the plastic surgeon also tightens and removes excess skin but does not tighten the muscles. Health insurance is more likely to cover panniculectomy, whereas health insurance companies usually don't cover abdominoplasty, considered a purely cosmetic procedure.
