The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) reports that atopic dermatitis cannot be cured, but may be controlled with medications like antibiotics, antihistamines and topical creams. Non-medical treatments, such as dietary and lifestyle changes, may also supplement medications.
According to the AAD, atopic dermatitis is most commonly referred to as eczema, and generally affects young children. Symptoms of atopic dermaitits include dry, scaly rashes that may bubble or ooze. These symptoms often appear within the first year of a child's life, and they can cause severe itching, burning and discomfort. Excessive scratching can lead to skin infections, so seeking treatment at the earliest signs may prevent additional discomfort and complications for your child.
