What are some tree-boring insects?

Some tree-boring insects include the Asian longhorned beetle, dogwood borer, elm bark beetle and the bronze birch borer. Other insects are the giant palm weevil and emerald ash borer.
Tree-boring insects don't just affect the leaves and branches like other insects, but get inside the trees by creating tunnels. They bore and kill twigs, roots and stems of a tree, laying eggs and blocking water-conducting tissues to prevent healthy growth. The leaves of the tree are often starved of nutrients if there is a large number of tree-boring insects. It is best to identify and control them as early as possible. Regular pruning, watering and fertilization help keep the tree healthy.
