Mature tree frogs primarily eat insects, while tadpoles are herbivorous. Tree frogs are a large and diverse group of frogs, most but not all of which are tree-dwelling. The type species, against which others are compared, is Hyla arborea. It specializes in eating fast flying insects.
Tree frogs live in a combination of temperate and tropical habitats. Depending on where they live, they subsist upon moths, flies, beetles or other small invertebrates. In some species, the female frog feeds its offspring unfertilized eggs while they are tadpoles. Other species exhibit no parental care. Tadpoles are often filter feeders but move on to larger vegetative matter as they grow.
