The tropical zone is an area located around the Earth's axis at the equator. It is limited to the Tropic of Cancer in the northern hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn in the southern hemisphere.
The tropical zone is also sometimes referred to as the tropics or the torrid zone. It is generally hot and humid year-round, and one of the characteristics is the lush vegetation in the area. Some tropical areas have a distinctive wet and dry season, but the tropical rainforest receives plenty of rainfall year-round. More than 40 percent of the Earth’s population lives in the tropical zone.
