What is true breeding?

By Forinfos - 18/07/2025 - 0 comments

True breeding is a type of genetic inheritance in which the parental generation, with one particular phenotype, produces a daughter generation with the exact same phenotype. The concept is often seen in plants.

True breeding in plants occurs when plants reproduce, and only produce other plants that look exactly the same as the parents. Both the parental and daughter generations have the same phenotype; therefore, they appear identical. True breeding affects all of the generations of plants, so the same phenotype is seen across many generations. It occurs due to the fact that the phenotypic traits are genotypically homozygous and recessive.
