Fat loss requires a combination of diet, exercise and stress management, according to Eat + Run, not just crunches and sit ups. While sit ups and crunches done correctly will tone muscles in the abdominal wall, they will not speed up fat loss on their own.
The most effective way to lose fat is to combine a healthy diet that is low in fat and high in lean protein and produce with aerobic activity and muscle-strengthening exercises, such as sit ups and crunches. Muscle & Fitness magazine also says fat loss requires plenty of water, adequate sleep and rest, and reducing starchy foods in the diet.
