The right to free speech and the right to bear arms are two guaranteed rights of U.S. citizens. The First and Second Amendments of the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments of the U.S. Constitution, protect these freedoms.
The result of increased calls for the protection of individual liberties and other basic rights under the Bill of Rights include freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, the right to a fair and speedy trial by an impartial jury and the prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment. Enacted in 1791, the fourth president, James Madison, authored the Bill of Rights, and he was also instrumental in drafting the rest of the Constitution.
