What are the two species of elephants?

The two species of elephants are the African species and the Asian species. African elephants are further divided into two subspecies: forest and savanna. There are four subspecies of Asian elephants: Sri Lankan, mainland, Borneo and Sumatran.

African elephants are generally taller and heavier than Asian elephants, and they have larger ears. African elephants have two finger-like projections on the ends of their trunks to aid them in picking up objects, while Asian elephants only have one finger-like projection and a more rigid trunk. Asian elephants have two humps on their foreheads, while African elephants have no humps on their heads.
